A Roof for Silence | Palais de Tokyo | Abbaye de Jumièges

"A Roof for Silence" is the project conceived by Lebanese-French architect Hala Wardé for the Lebanese Pavilion at the Venice International Architecture Biennale in 2021. A part – "module" – of the installation was presented at the Palais de Tokyo as part of the collective exhibition “Réclamer la Terre”. The entire installation was also rethought and adapted in the ruins of the Jumièges Abbey, in a quiet immersion and in resonance with this inspiring heritage site: an installation of broken glass, recovered after the explosion of August 4, 2020 in Beirut, ceramics inspired by paintings by Etel Adnan, large photographs of century-old olive trees by Fouad Elkoury and a meditative soundtrack by Soundwalk Collective and Mika.

This dual-opening publication, retells these two installations through inspirational images, texts, technical drawings and on-site photographs, bound together in a play of different kinds of papers.
