Claude Doumet Serhal | Sidon: Best of 15 Years

Translating fifteen years of archaeological excavation into an accessible exhibition experience

One of the studio’s earliest projects, developed in 2013 while -scope Ateliers was still operating as a very small team, Sidon: Best of 15 Years presented the discoveries of archeologist Claude Doumet Serhal and the British Museum’s long-running excavation campaign in Sidon. Hosted within the Directorate General of Antiquities’ modest exhibition space, the project brought together a dense collection of artifacts, archival material, maps, and explanatory content tracing over five millennia of urban history.

The exhibition design focused on clarity within spatial constraints. A large-scale floor graphic reproducing the excavation site itself anchored the exhibition physically, allowing visitors to move across the geography of the dig while engaging with the objects and vitrines surrounding it.

The primary challenge was to organize a substantial quantity of historical and scientific information within a compact environment, while maintaining coherent visitor experience.
